Look Kids, Big Library & Church

The Woodstock Roundabout at Main Street and Haney Road is now open to the public. Let’s hope don’t have too many National Lampoon’s Vacation scenes as local drivers circle near the Woodstock Library and City on a Hill church. The roundabout was built in partnership between the City of Woodstock and Toll Brothers, who contributed right-of-way and cash to the project. This green traffic calming device eliminates electrical costs of maintaining a signalized intersection connecting Haney Road and the south entrance of the Woodstock Knoll neighborhood with Main Street. Fashioned around landscaping, the roundabout was created as an entrance gateway to the City’s downtown from the north and into the historic residential area of Woodstock.

Local real estate agent, Mike Pennington, was the first to document a trip around the roundabout:

According to Main Street Woodstock

“the project started in June at the conclusion of the school year. Detours of traffic had been sent along Woodstock and Ridgewalk Parkways and along Rope Mill Road. Roundabouts are fairly new to the Cherokee County area, but have been successfully implemented in many communities across America and in Europe. The need for traffic control at the intersection came from the development of the former Johnston Family property by Toll Brothers. A total of some 300 homes are approved for construction in the neighborhood, although the recent economy has slowed project development.”
