Walking and Biking on the Rise in Woodstock

…and across the country.

It’s summer in Woodstock and you may be seeing more people out on the street walking and biking. But it’s not just because the weather is nice. There are more people walking and biking year round across America, and the Department of Transportation is responding by dramatically increasing the amount of money spent on projects for pedestrians and cyclists.  The graphic below from GOOD illustrates the increase in spending and increase of foot powered travel:

Woodstock Foot Powered Traffic Update

If you’re looking to walk or bike more in the Woodstock area, then you’re in luck because there are several new developments and projects to help you enjoy being foot mobile. The Woodstock Main Street streetscape improvementswill begin next month and the Taylor Randahl Memorial Bike/Hike Trail has been open for months to the public.

Even Grandma is Doing It

In fact, it seems that baby boomers and seniors are leading this push toward pedestrian traffic. Perhaps it’s all those years in the rat race with long commutes or time spent on the hustle? All I know is that people from my mom to my in-laws to friends, and colleagues at work are all talking about being able to walk more. Whether it’s just the ability to walk to the store, to grab a bite to eat, or to walk to work or get out and get some exercise – foot powered traffic is all the rage both here in Woodstock and around the country.

What’s stopping you from walking or biking more?
