The Cherokee Association of REALTORS® hosted ‘Cherokee’s Got Talent’, a fun-filled family event, as a fundraiser Saturday night in downtown Woodstock, GA. The fundraiser was a benefit for Elm Street Cultural Arts Village and Habitat for Humanity.
Elm Street Cultural Art Village is an exciting plan for a four acre cultural arts complex in downtown Woodstock. The site will include a performance theater, a visual arts center in a restored century-old farmhouse, and an historic visitors center to tell the story of Woodstock’s past. Elm Street’s park-like setting will include a sculpture garden, restored native wildflower area, community gardens, and historic re-creations of flower and produce gardens around the old house.
Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, nondenominational Christian housing ministry. They welcome all people, regardless of religion, race or ethnicity, to build simple, decent, affordable houses in partnership with those who lack adequate shelter. Together, through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, they have built or rehabilitated more than 350,000 houses, providing shelter for more than 1.75 million people in nearly 90 countries around the world.
The successful show was organized by Cassandra Bickel and her committee of volunteers, and they pulled off a really great show! The talent pool consisted of eighteen performers, ranging in age from 6 to late 60’s, with the winner being 14 year old Daniel Mata, an opera singer from Mabry Middle School, in Cobb County.
Daniel has been singing a very long time but amazingly, has only been singing opera for about 6 months. Daniel achieved a perfect score from all three judges and won $500 for winning first place. There was an additional prize awarded for the ‘Fan Favorite’, which was determined by fans placing money in jars labeled with the contestant’s name, the performer raising the most money won. The ‘Fan Favorite’ was The Freeman Boys, and they won over $300 for wooing the crowd with their rap song ‘Dad’s Life’.
Congratulations Daniel and to all of the performers!
The performers included: Tommy Paschal, Kinsey Kunkel, Claire Shirley, Megan Burke, Lukas & Greyson Freeman, Daniel Mata, Olivia Wade, Cathy, Chip & Carolyn Vollenweider, Abby Carlton, P.U.S.H., Steve Stark, Natalie Scott Seman, Nathan Smith, Layne Livingston, Dan McNeill, RJ Allen, Chris Hotz, and Erin Wilson.
Kudos to the Cherokee County Realtors for hosting such a successful event!
